Earlier this year, Activision unveiled Guitar Hero: Aerosmith, the first installment in its billion-dollar rhythm series based entirely on a band. No sooner had the publisher announced the deal than speculation began to spread about what the second band-based Guitar Hero game would be. Along with Van Halen (http://www.gamespot.com/news/6187248.html), the most mentioned group was Metallica, the legendary San Francisco Bay Area heavy-metal quartet.

Now, talk of Guitar Hero: Metallica is no longer a case of wishful thinking or idle speculation--it's fact. When sifting through an SEC filing of Activision's over the weekend, Wedbush Morgan Securities analyst Edward Woo--associate of the highly visible Michael Pachter--uncovered a gem in the section where the Santa Monica, California-based publisher discussed its upcoming game slate.

"In fiscal 2009, we plan to publish Guitar Hero: On Tour for the NDS; Guitar Hero: Aerosmith, Guitar Hero: Metallica, and Guitar Hero IV across multiple platforms," the company said in its report. Activision's fiscal year ends on March 31, 2009, which means that the game will likely follow the holiday release of Guitar Hero: World Tour (nee Guitar Hero 4).

Guitar Hero: Metallica will be the first time a game based on the multiplatinum-selling band--which has become only slightly less famous for its antipiracy efforts as its musical achievements--has made it to retail. However, it is the second such game to be announced.

In 2003, Vivendi Games--which will soon merge with Activision--struck a deal to create a vehicular combat game inspired by Metallica's music (http://www.gamespot.com/news/6029468.html). Unconfirmed reports stated that the project had been quietly canceled in 2005 (http://www.gamespot.com/news/6133951.html).

In other news, Activision's SEC filing also confirmed that the next James Bond game, which will be developed by Treyarch using the Call of Duty 4 engine (http://www.gamespot.com/news/6190641.html), will indeed be titled Quantum of Solace like the next James Bond film

Does this mean I'll be forced to play any post-Justice garbage? Just listening to it is bad enough~

I personally think that most of their songs after 88 were trash.

I think anything from the Black album and beyond sucks.

Only reason people liked or were excited about the Black album was because it had been so long since the last Metallica album. When it comes down to it, and when you compare it to their previous 4 (or 5 if you include Garage Days) albums, the Black album pales in comparison. Man I've been listening to Kill 'em All all week, it's so friggin' good!

I know i said what you did in different words =p

Metallica released their last not shitty album in 1988 (Justice).

The only arguable exception might be some of their live recordings, but when cliff had his accident i feel the performance went down. right now the present drummer has a steely sound to the drums and i can't stand it. But i do like some of their live performances. Personally my favorite song is Battery or Motorbreath. <3 (By metallica)

On the topic of the game being a success, i doubt it will be. It will be selling it based on their legacy of shaping thrash metal and not on their more recent successes. It will include several newer pieces of shit to 'promote' their content, which i believe will ruin it. What i think might be a better idea in general might be take a GH of the top Metal bands or somthing.

Godsmack...

Do they still sound like Alice in Chains without the talent?
